The Problem with Atheism...

upnorthkyosa's picture

The problem with Atheism is that it lacks the ability to alter states of consciousness like religions. This is the hallmark of all religious ceremony and I believe that this is the ultimate driving force behind all religious rituals. Humanity has developed this massive brain that has a largely unknown matrix of consciousness that (apparently) demands shifts of consciousness from time to time. Thus, if we look at the totality of this picture we are left with the thought that Atheism is missing something that humanity really needs.

Ritual.

Welcome

Let me be the first to welcome you to the wonderful world beyond atheism.

your first task will be to clarify your stance.
Am I a gnostic or agnostic...
am I a spiritualist or a new age seeker... ad infinitum

I assume from knowing you
you will take the path less taken
and avoid labels while trying to ascertain the kernal of truth hidden amongst the dross of belief systems
that may make you an occultist
but hey
as King George Bush the elder once opined
"labels are for cans"

Grats on your Red belt ;)

First of all, Atheism is too

First of all, Atheism is too strong a word to describe what I think. Basically, it goes like this...

A few years ago, I felt that religions and other sets of beliefs all held some hidden kernal of the divine...buried among the sea of dogma.

Then I woke up one day and realized that I really didn't believe that.

Basically, what I think now is that religions are a reflection of what is inside us and that they have no bearing on the greater physical universe beyond the few paltry things that we can influence.

There are no "Gods" in the sense that humans think of them. Rather, the "Gods" are us.

This statement does not preclude the existance of beings that we may consider to be Gods. It only grounds those beings within our universe, rather then apart from it.
