Statewide Smoking Ban Legislation Introduced in MN and WI

I just heard on MPR that legislation banning smoking in all workplaces and public places will be introduced this week in both state capitals. Both Governers, Doyle and Pawlenty, have pledged to sign this legislation. Both Governers are pushing for NO exceptions.

I find this very interesting and heartening. This issue has crossed the partisan divide and really is starting to make headway. My hope is that, finally, the science behind this issue is being heeded. The same arguments against it are being brought up, however. Many people consider this legislation to be nothing more then "nanny state" politics. They think it is grossly unfair of the government to intrude upon their personal businesses. Many consider it a form of government tyranny.

Is this a valid argument? What do you support?

I work in a Bar...
And if it weren't for the smoke I could see myself owning a bar.
I hate the smoke and wish I hadn't worked in it for 5 years

I agree with this blog more or less. Can anyone tell me why we have to ban smoking in our own homes, or outside in the woods for instance? Got to love the Cell phone link to cancer...thats why I don't have one. Thats gonna be new thread.

You know I haven't really thought of this up until now probably because I agree with a ban on public smoking being a non-smoker. These same people that are trying to control our habits which they created through marketing are also trying to stonewall any attempt at socialized medicine.

Note I put Cigarette manufacturers in the same boat as the insurance companies...why The military industrial intelligence complex....or fascism americanized in this instance it is Really us v Them.
